Tier 1 Accessibility Tech Tools for Learners
Edge Browser
Immersive Reader (adjustable voice and speed) It will read the entire page or click the word where you want it to start.
Note taking tools (highlight, notetaking).
*This will work on any webpage, pdf, and Canvas pages.
To Access: Upper Right-Hand side of screen, click on the three dots, select “Read Aloud” from the dropdown menu
Click on the “book” in the URL line to access “reading view”. This simplifies the webpage to clear away distractions and allows for altering font size and screen page color.
Word
View Tab
Click on View tab, then on Learning Tools. This allows the learner to adjust column width, page color, text spacing, syllables, and read aloud.
Review Tab
Click on the Review tab, then on Read Aloud, Spelling & Grammar, Translate, Simple Markup tools, or Check Accessibility.
Reference Tab
Click on the Reference tab. Smart look-up (dictionary, Citations (MLA, APA, Chicago, and more)
Home Tab
Click on the Reference tab, and then on Dictate. At school this is in the Office 365 version only. This will take a brief practice but might be a game changer for injured and struggling students.
PowerPoint
Click on the Home tab. The Dictate feature is available from home. This will take brief practice but might be a game changer for injured and struggling students.
One Note
One Note contains dictation, immersive reader tools, drawing tools, highlighting and annotation tools.
Sway
Sway contains an accessibility checker, and accessibility view, which allows the Edge "Read Aloud" to function.
Canvas
When opened in Edge, "Read Aloud" option will read the text. It is possible for audio files to be uploaded so that verbal answers are possible. See the "help" guides for more information on this option.

ProQuest Research Products
ProQuest, SIRS Discoverer, ELibrary, Culture Grams, History Study Center, ProQuest Learning: Literature. Sign in with Microsoft option does not work yet.
ProQuest- Does not have an internal reader but the Edge reader works well. ProQuest has extensive citation options.
SIRS Discoverer- Basic immersive reader, translation capabilities and citation basics.
eLibrary- Basic immersive reader, translation capabilities, and citation basics.
Culture Grams- Basic immersive reader and translation capabilities.
History Study Center- Does not have an internal reader but the Edge reader works well. MLA citation option only.
ProQuest Learning: Literature- Does not have an internal reader, but the Edge reader works well. Extensive citation options.
OverDrive (Sora) and RB Digital Library subscriptions
Audio books can be saved to a personal device or computer using these apps or websites. The speed of the reader can be adjusted, and many ebooks offer front and spacing options.
To log in- OverDrive is access using SSD email and password.
RB- create an account from the SHS library link then log in using that information. Using the same student log in information is helpful.
SHS Library Audiobook
The SHS library collection has some titles on "Play Away" devices for student check-out.
